Natural Girl Power!!!

Next Generation of Natural BEaUties

It’s amazing to see young girls celebrating each other's natural beauty!!!
Last Saturday, I had the awesome pleasure of attending the Launch Party of “Miss Naturals Pageant & Enrichment Programs”.  It was a beautiful site to see indeed…  We had mothers and daughters that came out to gather information about the pageant and enrichment program as well as register their daughters to be participants in this inaugural event.

We know that the beauty industry has a strong hold on “What is deemed BEAUTIFUL”!  And many of our young ladies are falling into the trap, striving to obtain beauty standards that are inconsistent with their authentic self.  But, what makes this program so unique?  What makes it different from any other girl program?

I believe that it’s the programs WHOLISTIC approach to addressing all aspects of our young girls’ well-being.  The “Miss Naturals Pageant and Enrichment Programs” was created by Tachia Peck who is very passionate about women and girls.  She designed this program to Promote self-acceptance to girls starting with their natural blessings from GOD and empowering them for intellect, strength and community service.”

Remember, It’s not just another “Girls Pageant”; it’s an Enrichment Program that’s geared toward enhancing our natural girls whole being.  This program is one of a kind; it promotes self-love, assists with building up the young ladies self-esteem, and empowers our young women to achieve their said goals and aspirations through supportive classes and workshops, communal activities and mentorship that’s age appropriate.  If you’re a mother and your daughter is natural, consider getting her involved.

Loc'd No More

Another one takes the plunge…  A good friend of mine name Betty Gathers had been contemplating the “Big Chop” for some time.   She’d watch videos, read blog posts and ask questions, educating herself on the process.   She’d call, we’d talk about it and she’d go back to watching more YouTube video’s of individuals who had done the “Big Chop”.  After going through that process for a while, "She finally did it"!  And here are her thoughts and a few questions I asked about her hair and her journey to the “Big Chop”.

Mrs Betty's "Big Chop" Thoughs

Me:  What made you decided to get Sisterlocks ® in your hair?
Mrs. Betty:  Well, I started with regular locks initially, and then took them out.  I tried taking care of my natural hair again but didn’t know how to properly do so.  You see, my natural hair texture frizzes really bad…  After not being able to tame it, I went to Sisterlocks ®.  (She had Sisterlocks ® for Seven Years)

Me:  What made you decide to do the "Big Chop"?
Mrs. Betty:  I was just ready for my hair to be loose.  I wanted to feel my hair and embrace it…  I just got “that burning desire” to do it!

Me:  Are you excited about your new hair journey?
Mrs. Betty:  Yep!!!  I am…  I’m excited about learning my hair texture and how to properly take care of it.

Me:  What advice would you give other women who are contemplating the “Big Chop”?
Mrs. Betty:  You need to really educate yourself, be around supportive people and be confident…  And don’t worry about what somebody else is going to say.

I guess Mrs. Betty had decided that enough was enough and made the “Big Chop”!  She did it after much research and soul searching…  Making the “Big Chop” is a “Big Decision”!  For some, it’s a “Big Relief”, and for others, it’s the start of a “New Beginning” with learning and embracing your natural hair texture.  Whatever your decision is for making the “Big Chop”, Celebrate It!

I Did It, I "Big Chopped"! (4.11.2013)

Congratulations Mrs. Betty!!  You’re Loc’d No More and
